he REEL Thanks Challenge (RTC) is an annual two week long fundraising event, presented by the Directors Guild of Canada, in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. After a pause in 2023, the REEL Thanks Challenge returns for 2024! This will be the 11th year for the RTC and it has raised a total of $1,790,064 since its inception.
The RTC is structured like a contest where different film and television productions around British Columbia compete to see who can raise the most money. The donations that these teams raise is greatly magnified through daily sponsored prizes from various organizations that support this great cause.
This year the event will be running from October 1st to 11th. Everybody is encouraged to get involved and support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank to provide healthy food to those in need.
With each donation, 81% is allocated to food purchasing and distribution, specialized nutrition programs for babies, children, and seniors, as well as warehouse operations. Just under 19% supports administration and fundraising. This is well within the guidelines set by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for Canadian charities.
The GVFB supports people struggling with food insecurity who live in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and on the North Shore. Food insecurity applies to individuals, couples and families who cannot afford the quality and quantity of food they need to avoid hunger. This can range from having to buy exclusively low-cost/low-nutrition foods or simply not being able to afford groceries at all because the bank account is empty. Food is often last on the list after critical, ongoing costs such as housing, utilities, and clothing are taken care of; we are here to help!
Yes! Share your support with a stylish cap or shirt. Our online store offers a variety of GVFB-branded items designed to help volunteers, team members, and everyone else share their love of the GVFB.
